Digital Marketing for Activists: Month in Review, Sept 2019
This month, we headed to Patagonia’s Tools for Grassroots Activists Conference in Bosnia & Herzegovina, helped drive awareness of the climate strikes for Patagonia’s Facing Extinction campaign, and watched Bill Oddie watching bankers in our downtime. Phew!
Patagonia’s Tools for Grassroots Activists Conference: Bosnia & Herzegovina
Last week, I was deployed to the Una National Park in Bosnia & Herzegovina to give digital marketing workshops and one-on-one coaching sessions to attendees of Patagonia’s Tools for Grassroots Activists Conference.
During the workshops, I shared Nativve’s collective digital marketing and social media advertising knowledge and expertise with the people who need it most, the people and NGO’s fighting the good fight on the frontline of environmental activism across Europe.
At last year’s conference, I managed to embed a barbed hook in my arm whilst trying my hand at fly-fishing. Luckily that particular activity wasn’t an option this year (something to due with elf and safety) so I took to the River Una for a rafting trip instead, avoiding any chance of further entanglement with fly-fishing equipment!

Patagonia Climate Action
It’s been the UN Climate Summit in New York this week and anyone who hasn’t got their head stuffed up Donald Trump’s backside will have noticed the monumental strikes that have been happening all around the world.
We’ve been working closely with Patagonia to drive awareness of the strikes and have been delivering a pan-European campaign called ‘Facing Extinction’ across numerous channels including YouTube, Display Ads, Facebook & Instagram. The campaign aims to educate people on why and how they should get involved.
There are only a couple of strikes left happening across Europe now but if you feel inspired and want to attend one visit Patagonia’s climate strike finder.
And finally…
What happens when national treasure and ornithological royalty, Bill Oddie decides to leave the sanctuary of his twitching tent and observe the behaviour of a Wunch of bankers known to congregate in Canary Wharf?
Watch this satirical mini-documentary from a couple of years ago that ends with Bill Oddie being manhandled out of HSBC’s London HQ, all in the name of deforestation.
